26/10/2009 "Opportunities of creating 5 000 new jobs in Latvia"
.
The seminar will be held on November 5th, 2009 in Reval Hotel Ridzene, Riga, Latvia.
The seminar is hosted by Norwegian Chamber of Commerce in Latvia and Farels Solutions is one of the key members organizing the seminar.
The initiative behind the Executive Industrial Policy Seminar comes from Members of the Norwegian Chamber of Commerce in Latvia (NCCL), seeking ways for further development of Latvian business despite the challenging economic conditions. Norway is the 4th biggest investor in Latvia. Norwegian businesses in Latvia, represented by NCCL, would like to facilitate an open discussion between Norwegian companies in Latvia, Latvian authorities and experts from the specific competence fields. The main focus of the seminar will be further developments of clusters in the Maritime and IT sector, and Latvia as the East-West gateway.
Prof., Torger Reve will lead the seminar. Prof., Reve chairs the field of Strategy and Industrial Competitiveness at BI Norwegian School of Management, Oslo, where he also heads the Center for Maritime Competitiveness. Prof., Reve was previously President of the BI Norwegian School of Management for 8 years. He has published 12 books covering such topics as industrial competitiveness, business strategy and strategic alliances. He is an expert on industrial clusters, has analyzed a wide range of industries and has lectured at universities worldwide.
The challenge for Latvia is its capability to compete for high-end investment, and, to quote Dr. Torger Reve:
- Nations and regions compete to have most attractive clusters for knowledge based companies
- Global companies relocate their activities to industrial clusters with good access to talents and technology
- High tech industries thrive in super clusters or what is referred as global knowledge hubs
- Future competition is innovation competition
The small Nordic and Baltic countries could be excellent locations for knowledge based companies. The aim of the seminar is through an exchange of ideas and views on the challenges and possible solutions, to develop a mutually advantageous cooperation between partners from Latvia and Norway. As a consequence of this process, 5000 new jobs could be created - reason enough to pursue seriously the opportunities for cooperation.
